Praised for her “expressive and nuanced” vocal and theatrical performances, Anna McMahon (soprano) gives voice to emotional truth through song. A Colorado native, this spring Anna again joins the Eklund Opera at the University of Colorado, Boulder to portray the title role in Massenet's Cendrillon. Previous roles with the Eklund Opera include Musetta in Puccini's La Bohème and Violetta in Verdi's La Traviata.  This summer Anna joined Opera North to sing Despina (Così fan tutte) and cover Violetta and last summer she appeared as Cendrillon with Opera in the Ozarks. Other performances include Giulia (La Scala di Seta) and Adele (Die Fledermaus) at Michigan State University, Rose Maurrant (Street Scene) at the Brevard Music Festival, Abigail Williams (The Crucible), Despina (Così fan tutte), Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi), and Despina at the University of Houston, and Belinda (Dido and Aeneas) with Opera Steamboat. She has also covered the role of Nannetta (Falstaff) with Martina Arroyo Prelude to Performance.

Anna draws great inspiration from her work with contemporary American works, most recently appearing in CU NOW’s workshop of Kamala Sankaram’s Joan of the City. In 2019 she produced and performed a staged version of Ricky Ian Gordon’s Orpheus and Euridice, connecting the classic myth to the #MeToo movement. Equally passionate about concert works, she has been soprano soloist for Verdi’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, and Brahm’s Requiem. She is a 2021 winner of the Denver Lyric Opera Guild Competition and an Encouragement Award winner from the 2020 Colorado/Wyoming District of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.

Anna currently studies with Jennifer Bird-Arvidsson and Julie Simson.
